Letter to the editor: Standing up for the Supreme Court

To the editor:

I have sent this letter to U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts of the U.S. Supreme Court

Dear Chief Justice Roberts:

Let me say at the outset that I do not always agree with all the court's decisions. However, I do respect them. And, I respect the court and its history.

With admiration, I read your remarks to the University of Alabama, including, "To the extent the State of the Union has degenerated into a political pep rally, I'm not sure why we're there ... ."

This situation goes back over many previous administrations to the point where I find the State of the Union Address unwatchable. The verbal assault on the court by the president at the State of the Union Address was a totally unwarranted breach of protocol and, simply rude and ignorant.

There are plenty of appropriate forums to debate such matters.

I'm sure you have received many letters of criticism. Let me clearly state my support for you in this matter.
