Letter: Singing the praises of Gloucester and its people

To the editor:

My sister and I decided to take a last-minute getaway.

She had just seen "The Perfect Storm" and thought it would be fun to explore Gloucester. She was able to book a last-minute room at the Cape Ann Motor Inn for one night only as it was the start of the Memorial Day weekend.

A short, easy three-hour ride later, we found ourselves at this beachside inn. Sitting on the deck we looked out at the fog rolling out and suddenly, there was Thacher Island, a beautiful sight. A night out for dinner proved all too soon what we would encounter the next three days.

Everyone, without exception, was friendly, helpful, interesting — and interested in us.

The next day we ventured out to the "must visit" Crow's Nest, expecting a total tourist trap. To our surprise and delight, the regulars were just as nice, excited to advise us as to where to go, eat, stay. They recommended a great hotel, The Atlantis, where we were able to book a room.

My sister has travelled the globe and said she has never met people as nice and friendly as the people of Gloucester. We were touched by your history and impressed with the cleanliness and beauty of your town.

We can't wait to return to share Gloucester with our families.

Thank you so much for your warm, wonderful hospitality!
