Letter: Don't make changes in Social Security benefits

To the editor:

I am writing out of concern for Social Security, and hope that it will be saved and its benefits not cut.

Truly, we are in a difficult global economy, and I am witnessing so many changes that are not for the better.

But there are many citizens who are dependent on Social Security and Social Security Disability income to survive. These people really need to have an income that they can count on.

Too many of them have gotten bad names through stereo types, which are not always true. The elderly population especially counts on Social Security, and that is all many of them have.

Also, there is a tremendous population who worked with companies and corporations for a long time to have a pension for their family, only to find that it wasn't sustained, but collapsed.

So is there any security?

The veterans who have served our country now need to be served by our country with the proper programs that will enable them to heal. We have a body of people who have not only the certification and training, but compassion, wisdom, love, and the strength to help all of these people through some of the most horrific experience of fighting in a war, and risking their lives, and seeing people close to them getting killed and dying. We need to take better care of these men and women after they come home from the war!!

Now, we have a tremendous immigrant population coming in, and again, where do we begin? Then, with all of the natural disasters, people need a safe place to go, heal, and take refuge, to survive and thrive.

So my prayers go out to every one, as this is so overwhelming. But please protect our Social Security income.
