To the editor:
Our recent date with Massachusetts Land Court among the Port Community Alliance, Beauport LLC and the City of Gloucester (the Times, Thursday, Sept. 13) brought the Port Community Alliance both hope and sorrow.
We were pleased with the judge’s decision not to grant the City of Gloucester’s attorney’s request for a hasty court date.
We found the four-month period of discovery imposed by the judge to be indicative of the seriousness with which he heard our concerns.
Therein lies our sense of hope.
Our sorrow is that, when the judge asked if all parties would be willing to reach a compromise, both PCA and Beauport Gloucester LLC agreed that they would.
Unfortunately, the city of Gloucester’s attorney declined to join us in pursuing a compromise.
Therefore, the case must be continued until Jan. 14, taking time and dollars away from the city.
