Alchemy reopening set tomorrow

Alchemy — the downtown restaurant that was closed for renovations while its managing partners focused on opening their new restaurant Latitude 43 — will be reopening tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.

The 3 Duncan St. restaurant will now be open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner. In celebration of the reopening, Linda Amero's jazz trio will be playing from 6:30 until 10:30 Wednesday evening, offering guests tableside live music while they dine.

Alchemy closed on Jan. 1 to undergo renovations in the kitchen and in the bar. The kitchen, which was too small, was expanded into what was previously the bar, and the bar was redesigned and brought into the main dining room.

The overall design of Alchemy is still the same, with its cozy nooks and intimate corners.

"Although we are opening with a new and exciting menu," said Jenn Waitkus, general manager of Alchemy. "The food concept is very similar to the old Alchemy and many of the old staples — such as the Uptown Mac & Cheese and the Seafood Risotto — have remained on the new menu.

"The menu is still new American cuisine, with greater emphasis on Southern bistro cooking and a touch of Caribbean flair (plantains, empinadas, tostones, etc.)," Waitkus said. "We are using all-natural/organic meats and produce and we will have many more vegetarian options than we previously offered.

"Overall, Alchemy is still the same warm, intimate, cozy environment, with great food at an affordable price, " she said, adding, "we are vegetarian — and kid-friendly.
