Former resident elected to National Soccer Board
Mark Linsky of Saratoga, Calif., formerly of Gloucester, was recently elected to the National Board of Directors of the American Youth Soccer Organization.
AYSO is the largest single-entity youth soccer organization in the United States, with more than 610,000 registered players and 225,000 volunteers.
Linsky, who has been affiliated with AYSO for 22 years, has held many other volunteer positions within the organization, including most recently, the chairperson of the National Management Commission. He has also served as the regional commissioner for AYSO Saratoga Soccer Region 27, the Area 2-J director (South Bay), and Assistant Section Two director (Northern California, Washington and Oregon), along with helping to coach his son and daughter in AYSO for more than 16 years.
Having retired from Hewlett-Packard R&D Management in 2002, Linsky also serves as vice chairman of Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Saratoga Education Foundation and for the Saratoga High School Sports Boosters, for which he acted as the volunteer project manager for the Saratoga High School field renovation program, including the installation of synthetic turf, lighting, and other improvements. Linsky is also active in Youth Service for the Rotary Club of Saratoga.
Linsky, son of Harold (Lenny) and Victoria Linsky, graduated from Gloucester High School in 1968.
Grant guidelines available
The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation is accepting inquiries in its 2008 Developmental Disabilities Grant category. Organizations in Essex County serving children and adolescents with developmental disabilities may be eligible for funds.
The due date for the letter of inquiry is Aug. 13.

Hillis named to VNA Care Network board
VNA Care Network & Hospice, a home health care, hospice and wellness agency at 8 Angle St., Gloucester, recently welcomed David W. Hillis as a member of the VNA Care Network Foundation board of directors.
Hillis brings many years of experience in health care management to this role guiding the agency's nonprofit mission. The agency's home health care services allow individuals to cope with illness and injury while remaining in their own homes. Services include nursing, rehabilitation therapy, home health aide support, social work, nutrition, and disease management for a variety of illnesses including diabetes and cardiac disease.
The agency also offers hospice, a specialized type of care for terminally ill patients and their loved ones that includes physical, emotional, practical and spiritual support with an emphasis on pain and symptom management for the patient. Hospice care is provided in patients' homes, nursing homes and other facilities.
For more than 20 years, Hillis has served as president, principal and chief executive officer of AdCare Inc., a Massachusetts business corporation organized to provide health care management services and acquisitions of facilities specializing in alcohol and drug care.
Hillis, a resident of Worcester, has received numerous honors for his work, including the Administrator of the Year Award from the American College of Addiction Treatment Administrations, an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Endicott College, and a 30-Year Achievement Award from the Hospital Financial Management Association.
