Local art work boosts Chamber auction

By Times Staff

An original piece of art by Rockport painter Don Mosher, worth an estimated $7,800, has helped lift the value of items donated to the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce auction to some $125,000 to date — with the auction still more than two weeks away.

Mosher's gift to the Chamber for its 22nd annual Good and Services Auction, set for Friday, July 17, at Cruiseport Gloucester, is one of a number of art works contributed by individuals and businesses for the annual event, which is expected to offer some $200,000 worth of items up for bid. Another painting, by Ken Knowles, carries an estimated value of $4,800, said the Chamber's Judy Caulkett — who also noted the auction offers much more than local works of art.

Other items donated to date include travel tours — including a Holland lines cruise, and trips to South Africa and Puerto Rico.

Other donations include several New England getaways, Red Sox tickets, dining packages from Cape Ann's finest restaurants, whale watches, deep sea fishing expeditions and more.

The online edition of the Goods & Services Auction will begin Monday, July 6, and continue through July 24. Contributions of every size, shape, and value are still being sought.

A complete list of items can be found on the Chamber Web site, www.capeannchamber.com/auction2009. Anyone seeking more information on the auction may call 978-283-1601.

Admission to the July 18 live auction at Cruiseport is $20 per person at the door. Discounted table reservations for 10 guests may be made by calling the Chamber.
