Daniel and Brenda King of Amesbury announce the engagement of their daughter, Danielle King, to Jamil Shamasdin, son of Kamrudin and Rozmina Shamasdin of Pickering, Ontario, Canada.
Danielle is a graduate of Amesbury High School. She received her bachelor's degree from Harvard University, Class of 2000 and her MBA from Yale University, Class of 2007. She is an associate in public finance for Lehman Brothers in New York City.
Jamil is a graduate of Dunbarton High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Harvard University, Class of 2001 and is currently pursuing his MBA from Columbia University.
Jamil was deathly ill the night before he was going to propose; a combination of dehydration and food poisoning. He wasn't sure if he was going to be able to pull it off the next morning, but after a sleepless night, he woke up early and pretended he had a meeting in the city. He told Danielle she should meet him afterwards. They met up and walked to the Roseland Ballroom, where Jamil claimed he had left his bag (it was also where they first met).
Upon entering, music was playing and the place was emptied out. Danielle was totally confused, and when she entered the ballroom and saw candles in the center of the floor in the shape of a heart she still had no idea what was going on.
Jamil pulled an embarrassed Danielle to the middle of the candles (there were Roseland workers staring from the wings), and then dropped to one knee and popped the ring out. The ring fit, she said yes, and that was that.
Afterwards, Jamil sent Danielle to a spa for a massage, manicure, pedicure and haircut. They had an amazing dinner at MoMA's restaurant The Modern (although Jamil still couldn't eat much). All in all, it was a really great day, aside from the fact that Jamil was so sick!
A Sept. 8, 2007 wedding is planned.
