GHS, O'Maley students earn Scholastic Art honors
A pair of Gloucester High School students and three from O'Maley Middle School have earned honors in the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards program, with one's work earning a place in the national competition in New York City.
Gloucester High sophomore Tyler Devlin earned a gold key and a place in the nationals for the sculpture division for his piece titled "Altered Book, Altered Perception."
GHS senior Chloe Rideout also earned a silver key in the drawing division for her "self portrait."
Both students are in GHS Art Teacher Jacqueline Underwood's Honors Studio Art courses, Rideout as an independent study student, while Devlin is in the regular course class.
The Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards is billed as the super bowl of art competitions for high school, middle school and elementary schools students, and the program has been ongoing for nearly 60 years.
All of the awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremonies, which are set for Sunday at Hancock Hall in Boston. All of the winning art work is on display through Feb. 27 at the Mass. Transportation Building.
