Forum turns spotlight on energy policy

The Cape Ann Forum will host author and social critic Michael Klare in a Sunday night event that will spotlight a critique of U.S. energy policy.

That critique will be drawn from Klare's new book, "Rising Powers, Shrinking Planet: The New Geopolitics of Energy," and will run Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gloucester City Hall.

The program will also feature the naming of the 2008 international awareness Gloucester High School scholarship recipient.

The event is free and open to the public, and books will be available for sale and signing.

Filmmakers at Gloucester Stage

The MassBay Film Projects will host two filmmakers at separate events tonight and tomorrow at Gloucester Stage Company.

And the directors who will take part in discussion and a question-and-answer time both have Cape Ann connections.

Tonight's film at 7:30 p.m. features "A Walk into the Sea: Danny Williams and The Warhol Factory." The 75-minute documentary is described as director Esther Robinson's personal inquiry into the truth behind her uncle Danny Williams's mysterious 1966 disappearance after a family dinner in Rockport.

"The discovery of 20 never-before-seen films Williams made during his time at the Factory — and whose many subjects include Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick and what may be the earliest known footage of The Velvet Underground — reveals a luminous talent and a stark gap in the historical record," according to a press release.

Tomorrow will feature a viewing of "A Sense of Place," a documentary about Virginia Lee Burton by local filmmaker Christine Lundberg, at 7:30 p.m. Burton wrote and illustrated children's books while living in Gloucester. Local personalities and schoolchildren are featured in the documentary. Lundberg will introduce the film and answer questions. Tickets to this event are $10. Proceeds benefit the Gloucester Education Foundation.
