Relay for Life fundraiser

Morning at the Museum

Cape Ann Museum, 27 Pleasant St., will host Morning at the Museum for children ages 6 to 12. Participants will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 to 11:45 a.m. The schedule is: Tomorrow, Seeing Sculpture; Aug. 7, Glorious Greenheads; Aug. 12, Creative Kites; Aug. 14, Marine Mosaics; Aug. 19, Flying Fish; and Aug. 21, Summer Seascapes. Each program includes a take-home craft project and an outdoor activity or walk. Cost is $10 per person, per class. An additional sibling costs $5 per class. Adult Foster Care party

Adult Foster Care of the North Shore will present an award to Stan Fushpanski, a long-time foster caregiver, at its summer party today at the Gloucester House restaurant. The party will begin at noon, followed by the presentation at 1 p.m.

'Doubt, A Parable'

Gloucester Stage, 267 East Main St., presents John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt, A Parable" Aug. 7 to 24. Directed by Eric C. Engel, the show stars Rockport resident and Elliot Norton Award winner Nancy E. Carroll and Boston actor Lewis D. Wheeler, and features Kortney Adams and Melissa Baroni. Bronx school principal Sister Aloysius takes matters into her own hands as she investigates the behavior of a young priest, Father Flynn. The play has won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Drama Desk Award, and the Tony Award for Best Play. Performances are Wednesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 4 p.m. Tickets are $35, $30 for seniors and students. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, a limited number of half price tickets are available for Cape Ann residents. Advance reservations and proof of residency are required. The Aug. 9 performance is a Pay What You Can show. Following the Aug. 10 performance, audiences are invited to a free post-show discussion with the actors and directors. Barnacle bazaar

The Orthodox Congregational Church of Lanesville, 1120 Washington St., will hold its annual bazaar Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Deacon's Fund for charitable/community giving. The event will feature a silent auction, white elephant items, books, crafts, games, food and baked goods, including nisu bread. Call Barbara at 978-283-2345.

Synchronized swim clinic

The North Shore YMCA Selkies will offer a synchronized swimming clinic Aug. 18 to 22, 10:30 to 12:30 p.m., at the Sterling Center YMCA in Beverly. Cost is $105. The North Shore YMCA Selkies, which is composed of swimmers from the North Shore, practice at the Ipswich, Gloucester and Beverly YMCAs.

Whale watch for seniors

The Council on Aging will sponsor a whale watch for Cape Ann seniors and their family members Thursday, Aug. 28. The three- to four-hour trip will depart from the Seven Seas Wharf, Rogers Street, at 8:30 a.m. sharp, rain or shine. Tickets are $23 per person. The tour will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations must be made at the Rose Baker Senior Center by Aug. 26. Call 978-281-9765.

Afternoon dancing

The Good Ole Salty Jazz Band will present music for dancing and entertainment at the Rose Baker Senior Center, today and Aug. 18, 1 to 3 p.m. Call 978-281-9765.

Legal information for seniors

Attorney Sal Frontiero will offer free legal consultation to Gloucester seniors Wednesday, Aug. 6, 12:30 to 2 p.m., at the Rose Baker Senior Center. There is no charge for the service. To schedule an appointment, call 978-281-9765, ext. 14.

Summer food service program

The Open Door sponsors a local summer food service program that serves free lunches to children 1 to 18 years old. The program runs Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., until Aug. 29, at these Gloucester locations: Riverdale Park neighborhood; Willowood Gardens; The Open Door; Cape Ann YMCA; Veterans' Memorial School; and Kitefield Road neighborhood (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. only). The program is federally funded through the USDA and sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Education. All meals are free to children under 18. No registration or sign-up is necessary. Trip to Provincetown raffle

A raffle to benefit the North Shore Health Project is underway. The raffle features two trips to Provincetown. The first trip includes a day trip to Provincetown and lunch at Bayside Betsy's; and the second trip includes a day trip to Provincetown and lunch at Café Heaven. Each cruise will depart at 8:30 a.m. from Cruiseport, 6 Rowe Square, and return at 7 p.m. Raffle tickets are $5 each. The winning tickets will be drawn Aug. 4. Annisquam Exchange

Donations for fireworks sought

Fireworks in Gloucester depend on fundraising efforts and the Gloucester Fireworks Committee is working hard on spectacular fireworks displays for Saturday, Aug. 30, after the Boat Parade of Lights. All donations, large and small, are needed to raise the money that will allow all of us to enjoy these festive holiday celebrations. Counseling for veterans

Many veterans experience difficulty in adjusting to problems they face in civilian life after having served in combat. The Lowell Vet Center offers counseling at the Gloucester Veterans Center for area veterans and their families, free of charge. White-Ellery House tours

Cape Ann Museum will offer guided tours of the White-Ellery House, a rarely-shown First Period structure built in 1709 on Gloucester's historic Town Green and moved to its present location at 244 Washington St. Tours on Sept. 6 and Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., are free with the price of admission to the museum; $8 for adults, $6 for Cape Ann residents and seniors, $4.50 for students, free for children younger than 12 and museum members. Band camp

Members of The Docksiders and the Gloucester High School Marching Band, as well as those who would like to join, are invited to participate in the annual band camp at Gloucester High School from Aug. 13 to 15. Rehearsals will take place each day from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 1310 at the High School. All current members of both bands should plan on attending, including some freshmen. Garden Awards

The Gloucester Civic and Garden Council is seeking nominations for its annual garden award program. Awards will be given in the fall to the best dooryard gardens, container gardens, window boxes, and street-side landscaping. There is also an award for signs. Women's Guild events

The Holy Family Parish Women's Guild will meet tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Msgr. Sullivan Hall, St. Ann Church. A short business meeting will be followed by a social and refreshments. Tom Paradis will talk about the Arise program. Dues of $10 will be collected. The annual penny sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 20. Helen Downey is the contact person. Prizes and donations are appreciated. The Guild is selling cookbooks for $10 each after the weekend Masses. New members are welcome.

Women's Community Club

The Women's Community Club of Magnolia will hold its summer cookout tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Magnolia Beach. In case of rain, the event will be held at Jones Hall, Magnolia Library Center. GFC annual family picnic

The Gloucester Fraternity Club will hold its annual family picnic Saturday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. Tickets are $12 per person, free for children under 12. The event will include a moonwalk game for children and a horseshoe tournament for adults. Call 978-283-9772.
