Best-selling author Andre Dubus III will discuss his latest work "The Garden of Last Days" tonight at 7 p.m. at the Rockport Public Library.
Dubus was a finalist for the 1999 National Book Award for "House of Sand and Fog" in which he created an electrifying conflict between an American woman and an Iranian colonel in exile. The book went on to become an Oprah Book Club selection and was made into a movie.
His new novel focuses on an encounter between an American woman and a terrorist preparing to meet his destiny.
"The Garden of Last Days" has been described as a passionate novel that grabs the reader with the same psychological tension, depth and realism that characterized "House of Sand and Fog."
Dubus will help wind up the Beach Reads program, the library's summer reading program for adults, by talking about his latest work, sharing some of his favorite authors and announcing the results of the reading competition. The person who read the most books will receive a bookstore gift certificate.
Tonight concludes the Summer Literary Series jointly sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Toad Hall Bookstore, and the Rockport Public Library. A fall series of author events will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 10, with Ruth Nemzoff discussing her new book, "Don't Bite Your Tongue: How to Foster Rewarding Relationships with your Adult Children."
All events are free and open to the public and the library is handicapped accessible.
