Co-owner Jennifer Pette sands the hull of the Valhalla at Rose Marina on Friday. The 34-foot antique boat, built in 1934 in Brooklyn, N.Y., is one of two boats of its kind in existence, the other being Ernest Hemingway’s Pilar. It is believed that Hemingway had the Pilar built, based on the Valhalla’s design. However, the story is he wanted more room at the back to go fishing, so the Pilar is 38 feet.
