March 11, 2008 06:46 am Arrest r A Gloucester man was arrested on charges of drunken driving following an accident that caused him to lose his rear tire on Essex Avenue yesterday at 1:46 a.m. Noah B. Lamphear, 28, of 131 Western Ave., told police that he had skidded on ice, sliding sideways and losing a tire. Patrolman Brian Aiello, who was dispatched to the single-car accident, detected alcohol on Lamphear's breath. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.
Suspicious behavior r Police received a report of a person looking in a basement window on Maplewood Avenue at 12:03 a.m. yesterday. They did not find anyone when they searched the area, but a short time later, Patrolman Leon Stuart noticed a man looking in a basement apartment window on the street. Upon questioning, the man told Stuart that his girlfriend lived there and he was trying to get her to open the door. The girlfriend told police that she didn't want the man in her home, and he was advised to leave the area. r A Leonard Street woman and her daughter reported that a man was sitting in a truck across the street from their home, looking at them through binoculars around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. The truck was gone by the time police got to the house, but the women wanted a report on file.
Car fire r Police and firefighters responded to a car fire at Elm and Prospect streets yesterday at 6:43 a.m. The firefighters extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.
Vandalism and larceny r A glass entry door to 191 Main St. was shattered yesterday morning. It was secured by a keyholder. r Police received a report that someone had painted graffiti and broken the knob of a door at the Gloucester Housing Authority youth center. r A thief stole two scanners worth $300 from an unlocked car at the Hess gas station on Main Street while the car's owner was inside the store paying for his gas around 2:17 p.m. yesterday. There are no suspects or witnesses.
Lost child r Patrolman Scott Duffany spotted a 2-year-old boy wandering around the neighborhood near Elwell and Sadler streets at 2:27 p.m. yesterday. He found that the child's home was on Friend Street and when he arrived, found the child's father walking around looking for him. The father said he had gone to the bathroom while his two sons were playing in the apartment and the 2-year-old left through the unlocked door. According to the report, the home seemed clean and well-kept but police reported the incident to the state Department of Social Services.
Fire record r The rescue squad transported patients to Addison Gilbert Hospital from Main, Washington, Wheeler and Lincoln streets, Pavilion Beach and McPherson Park on Sunday. They transported a patient from Wheeler Street to Beverly Hospital that day as well.
