Gloucester police looking for suspicious man

By Kristen Grieco
Staff writer

Police are on the lookout for a man who, they say, chased three teen girls down the street after offering them cigarettes Monday afternoon.

Patrolman Joseph Catarino was dispatched to the Burnham Street area around 5:15 p.m. Monday after a caller reported that a man was offering teenage girls cigarettes. After a search of the area, Catarino was unable to find anyone matching the caller's description, but one of the girls and her mother reported the incident to police.

The girl told police that a man had approached her and two friends, asking, "Hey cuties, you wanna smoke?"

When the girls refused, he grabbed one by the arm, police were told. The three girls ran away and reported that the man chased them to the area of 91 Washington St., by the Tedeschi's convenience store.

The witness described the suspect as white with darker features, between 5-foot-4 and 5-foot-10. She said he was possibly in his 40s, wearing a yellow jacket with black stripes, jeans and a black and red beanie hat.
