Noah R. Lamphear, 28, of 131 Western Ave., pleaded guilty to drunken driving and was sentenced to six months in jail, suspended for two years. He also lost his license for two years and was ordered to pay a $250 head injury fee and a $50 victim/witness assessment in Gloucester District Court yesterday.
Lamphear was arrested after police investigated a motor vehicle accident on Essex Avenue on March 10. They found that Lamphear had flipped his pickup truck on its side. He was unable to pass several field sobriety tests.
r A Gloucester man who admitted to breaking into homes in Marblehead, Wenham, Newburyport, Tewksbury, Beverly, Sherborn and several New Hampshire towns was sentenced in the September break-in at a Gloucester home yesterday.
Michael P. McKay, 35, of 5 Rose Lane, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property, larceny of more than $250 by check, forgery of a check and uttering a false check, and was sentenced to 18 months in jail, concurrent with a sentence he is already serving.
He also pleaded guilty to breaking and entering during the daytime to commit a felony and was placed on probation for three years.
According to police reports, McKay broke into a Concord Street home on Sept. 3. The owner originally believed nothing was missing but later found that a check for $850 had been written out to McKay and cashed, and discovered jewelry and medications also appeared to have been stolen.
McKay was arrested by Beverly police in conjunction with the burglaries there, and admitted to the Concord Street break-in.
r A Gloucester man who police found was growing and selling $10,000 worth of marijuana annually from his Way Road home was placed on 18 months of probation yesterday.
Daniel G. Allen, 37, of 3 Way Road, admitted to sufficient facts on a charge of possession of a class D drug with intent to distribute. He was ordered to pay a $65 per month probation administration fee and a $50 victim/witness fee.
Additional charges of possession of a class D drug with the intent to distribute and possession of a class D drug were dismissed.
Allen was arrested on July 25, 2006, after a marijuana eradication team doing a helicopter flyover of Essex County spotted the plants growing in a wooded area near his home.
A ground inspection team found two large potted marijuana plants and some growing in the earth. Upon being questioned by police, Allen said he also had marijuana growing in his basement. According to the police report, there were 25 to 30 plants outside the home and about 50 inside, along with paraphernalia that police said indicated a "very sophisticated marijuana growing operation."
Allen told police he'd been growing marijuana since college and sold 20 to 25 ounces per year.
