ESSEX — Police say they caught two Melrose teens Wednesday as they were attempting to break into a house on Centennial Grove at 8:26 p.m.
The 18-year-olds, Felipe Moraes of 73 Essex St. and Joshua T. Laboda, of 49 Appleton St., face charges of breaking and entering in the night with the intent to commit a felony, larceny from a building, and possession of alcohol by a minor.
r Police were called on by the state police Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. to assist in the apprehension of a hit-and-run suspect. The suspect had left the scene when police arrived.
r There was a medical emergency at the Greenbelt Association on Eastern Avenue on Wednesday at 10:49 a.m. An artist who was painting outside took a step back, fell, and hit his head on a rock. He was transported to Beverly Hospital.
r A Volkswagen Passat traveling on Main Street was rear-ended by a Dodge pickup truck Wednesday at 3:50 p.m. No injuries were reported. However, both cars needed to be towed.
r A moving truck hit a utility pole Wednesday on Eastern Avenue at 1:39 p.m. The driver was not injured. However, the pole was broken in half. National Grid was notified.
r A false fire alarm was set off at a residence on Lufkin Point Lane on Wednesday at 11 p.m.
r Policed received a report of a missing cat named Jessie yesterday at 9:10 a.m. According to the flier handed out by the concerned family the cat "is black with green eyes. He is very shy and timid. We miss him." The family can be contacted at 978-768-3622.
