Firefighters came to the rescue of a rock climber who hurt his ankle Saturday afternoon.
The man had been climbing on Tablet Rock in Stage Fort Park when he was injured at 5:23 p.m. Firefighters found him halfway up the rock, in pain, and with an ankle that was either twisted or broken.
Firefighters slid the climber down a ladder to an ambulance waiting at the bottom of the rock.
Arrests:
r David M. Smith, 44, of 600 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, N.H., was arrested at 6:19 p.m. Friday and charged with disorderly conduct. The arrest was made while police investigated a report of a person who punched out a car window on Parker Street.
r Robert M. Braunston, 57, of 199 Essex Ave., Gloucester, was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation on Essex Avenue at 6:31 p.m. Friday.
r Brian M. Cairns, 23, of 187 Vulvan St., Boston, was arrested at 6:51 p.m. Friday and charged with drinking in public. Police said they found Cairns highly intoxicated, and carrying an open container of Coors Light beer in the cemetery off Grove and Washington streets.
r Elisio A. Deoliviera, 44, of 77 Summer St., Somerville, was arrested and charged with driving without a license at Rafes Chasm. State Environmental Police made the arrest at 7:28 p.m. Friday.
r Scott N. Gardner, 26, of 1634 Grandview St., Oceanside, Calif., and Nathan C. Andrews, 28, of 38R High St., Rockport, were arrested on High Street at 9:26 p.m. Friday and charged with drinking in public. At the same time, a 16-year-old Methuen girl was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and trespassing.
r Daniel C. O'Brien, 43, of 4 Shepherd St., Gloucester, was arrested at 9:33 p.m. Saturday and charged with domestic assault and battery. According to police records, the victim had red marks on her face, and officers found O'Brien hiding in his backyard. He was held over the weekend in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
r Christopher M. Bozek, 36, of 8 Elm St. Apt. 2, Merrimack, N.H., was arrested on East Main Street at 10:36 p.m. Saturday and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and driving with an open container of alcohol.
Incidents
r Possibly rabid raccoons were reported over the weekend on Babson Court and in a shed on Washington Street.
r A Washington Street business owner reported that someone stole a kayak from in front of her store overnight Friday. She discovered the theft at 8:40 a.m. Saturday. Several hours later, the woman reported that she had found the kayak in some bushes on Tucker Street.
r A Willowood Road teenager said another teen pulled a knife on him in front of his house Saturday night. The 17-year-old said he had been walking through a group of teens at 10:13 p.m. when one of them pulled out a butterfly knife and asked him if he wanted to "get stabbed." No injuries were reported in the police log.
r Two men got into a fight over $2 knick knacks on sale at a yard sale at 7:06 a.m. yesterday. The host of the yard sale resolved the dispute, and the men were gone by the time police arrived.
r Pieces of a fence around the construction area at the Ward 2 School on Webster Street were knocked over, police discovered at 2:55 a.m. yesterday.
r A Roman candle, a type of fireworks, was set off inside a pick-up truck parked on East Main Street, slightly burning the inside of the truck. The truck's owner, who had parked the vehicle overnight with the windows rolled down, reported the damage at 7:05 a.m. yesterday.
r The Bass Rocks Golf Club reported around noontime yesterday that someone had dug up the turf in the practice area sometime after 10 the night before. Beer cans were also found strewn around the area.
r Police received a report of someone exposing themselves on Wingaersheek Beach at 5:19 p.m. yesterday.
