A Rockport man was sentenced to probation stemming from an incident last August when he was observed by police selling heroin.

Corey D. Sherman, 28, of 46 School St., Rockport, was placed on 18 months probation on charges of distribution of heroin and resisting arrest. Sherman also received a one-year suspended sentence and was ordered to continue a substance abuse program by Judge Michael Uhlarik in Gloucester District Court yesterday.

Sherman was arrested Aug. 15, 2008, after police spotted him sell a bag of heroin to another man while sitting in a truck parked in the corner of the Shaw's parking lot adjacent to the Gloucester MBTA train station, an area the police report indicated is known to police for narcotics transactions.

When police approached the vehicle, Sherman ran from the vehicle. After a short foot chase, Sherman tripped over the train tracks and was tackled by an officer. He struggled in an attempt to flee but failed. According to the police report, he admitted having more heroin in his wallet and a needle and syringe in his pants pockets.

Charges of heroin possession and bringing drugs into a school zone were dismissed. He was assessed $90 in court costs.

Brook Faulkner, 24, of no known address, was sentenced to a year in jail yesterday after he plead guilty to a charge of cocaine distribution. A school property drug violation was dismissed.

Faulkner was arrested on a warrant July 11, 2008, stemming from an incident on April 25, 2008, when undercover agents with the Cape Ann and Essex County drug task forces observed Faulkner selling cocaine in downtown Gloucester.

According to court records, Faulkner approached an undercover State Police trooper inside Latitude 43 restaurant in the April 2008 incident and asked the agent if he "needed anything."

When the trooper asked Faulkner what "anything" meant, Faulkner responded "coke." Upon the trooper's request, the pair went out to the parking lot and entered a vehicle where the trooper observed Faulkner sell a $50 bag of cocaine to another man.
