Essex Police/Fire

ESSEX — An Island Road resident defended his home against a rabid raccoon Sunday night. The resident first called the police at 7:12 p.m to report that a rabid raccoon had entered his home. The animal then ran off, but had returned to the home and tried to get back in again. The raccoon left again after the owner whacked it with a golf club. When animal control arrived, the animal had left the scene.

r A rabbit caused a minor car accident on Eastern Avenue near Farnham's Restaurant at 1:24 p.m. Monday. A driver that had quickly stopped to avoid hitting the rabbit was rear ended by the vehicle that was following him. Information was exchanged and the total repair costs were estimated at less than $1,000.

r Police determined that a noise complaint on Harry Homans Drive was merely a domestic argument. The report came in Sunday night at 8:09 p.m.

The Fire Department transported a sick Lufkin Point Road resident to Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Peabody at 10:28 a.m. yesterday.
