A 21-year-old Gloucester woman charged with negligent driving and possession of heroin had her case continued yesterday without a finding for one year in Gloucester District Court by Judge Joseph Jennings.

Kayla Kurgen of 18 Wishart Road, Gloucester, was ordered to pay $50 in court costs and undergo random drug and alcohol screenings.

Kurgen was also found responsible for a marked lane violation and speeding.

The charges against Kurgen stemmed from motor vehicle stops in December and August of 2007.

According to the police report, officers responding to reports of an erratic driver on Washington Street found traces of heroin and a bag of hypodermic needles in Kurgen's car in the December 2007 stop.

State police in August 2007 responded to a crash on Route 128 north near exit 13 and found Kurgen's car, with hypodermic needles inside, against a guardrail. Kurgen admitted to drug use before being transported to Beverly Hospital, the report said.

Witnesses said Kurgen's car had swerved wildly across the road before rolling over and flipping five times, according to the report.

A 47-year-old Toluca Lake, Calif., man charged with drunken driving had his case continued without finding for one year yesterday in Gloucester District Court.

Nelson Brag Jr. of 10153 Riverside Drive, Toluca Lake, Calif., was ordered to pay $600 in court costs and received 45 days loss of drivers license.

Brag was found responsible for speeding and a marked lane violation.

Rockport police arrested Brag after observing a car he was driving travelling 45 mph in a 30 mph zone on South Street.

According to the police report, Brag, who was coming from a "house party," did not stop immediately for officers and appeared intoxicated.

A 29-year-old Gloucester man was found responsible for a license plate violation and had charges for driving with a suspended license dismissed yesterday in Gloucester District Court.

Antonio Metaxakis of 30 Sayward St., Gloucester, was ordered to pay $200 in court costs.

Police arrested Metaxakis on Feb. 6 after an officer pulled his car over for having red lights and a plastic cover on his license plate that obscured the figures.

Metaxakis' driver's license had expired, according to the police report.

A 25-year-old Gloucester man charged with possession of marijuana had his case continued without finding for six months yesterday in Gloucester District Court.

Harry Parsons of 13 Lansford Court, Gloucester, was ordered to pay $250 in court costs.

Parsons was arrested June 13 after police pulled over his car for making an illegal turn on Commercial Street and found a small amount of marijuana in his ashtray.

A 21-year-old Rockport man charged with drunken driving had his case continued without finding for 18 months yesterday in Gloucester District Court.

Michael Price of 6 Ridgewood Terrace, Rockport, was ordered to pay $600 in court costs and received 45 days loss of driver's license.

Charges against Price for a failure to stop or yield and a marked lane violation were dismissed.

Price was pulled over by Gloucester police on Eastern Avenue on April 4, after an officer said he observed him driving erratically.
