September 06, 2008 05:05 am State representative candidate Astrid afKlinteberg said yesterday the Internal Revenue Service has notified her of a lien for unpaid 2006 taxes. The IRS previously had put a lien on afKlinteberg for unpaid taxes in 2005. She said the new lien was for $10,667, roughly twice the amount in the earlier lien. "It doesn't seem right to me," said the attorney. She is in a three-way primary fight with seven term Rep. Anthony Verga and Ann-Margaret Ferrante for the 5th Essex seat in the Legislature. "This is nothing new," she said. "It's my bad for having this happen, but it's not about evasion, it's about my inability to pay. I intend to pay every little bit, but what do I owe?" She said her accountant was attempting to contact the IRS and resolve the amount of her unmpaid taxes for both years. In the campaign's two debates, afKlinteberg has decribed herself as having navigated through an abusive relationship, single motherhood and family illnesses only to come out stronger. "I'm a fighter, I have incredibly strong will," she said during the debate yesterday at Cruiseport that was sponsored by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.
