October 23, 2008 05:05 am A Gloucester woman and musical partner are seeking ideas for their next album. Ilene Altman, better known as "Leeny," and longtime friend Steve Equi have released a compilation of children's music titled "Be Nice." They have received a variety of awards for "Be Nice," including a Parents' Choice Award, the Preferred Choice Award from Creative Child Magazine, and they're finalists in the Children's Music Web Awards. "We are now in the process of writing songs for our next album and would like to invite your readers to tell us what subject matter they want to see addressed in kids' music, i.e. educational concepts, childhood experiences, stuff that's just plain silly, anything!" Altman said. Parents and children can e-mail ideas to leenyandsteve@yahoo.com or send mail to: Leeny and Steve, P.O. Box 39, Gloucester, MA 01931. More information about Leeny and Steve and their album, "Be Nice," is available by visiting www.leenyandsteve.com. Their album can be purchased locally at The Last Stop variety in East Gloucester, Zak's in Manchester, Casa De Moda in Beverly, and via Amazon.com, CD Baby and iTunes.

Ilene Altman, better known as "Leeny," said her nephew, Zak, pictured with her, was an inspiration for "Be Nice," a children's album she recorded with Steve Equi. "I decided to write a few songs of my own and try them out on Zak. When I began to catch him dancing around the room singing my songs, I knew I was on to something." Courtesy photo
