Arrests

A Rockport man was arrested in the IGA market parking lot early Sunday after he reportedly got into a verbal argument with two women and struck one of them.

Christopher W. Rowell, 25, of 207 Sandy Bay Terrace, was charged with domestic assault, and assault and battery at 12:25 a.m. According to the police report, a young woman walking home from the train station with a friend called police to report a man was harassing her and being verbally abusive. Rowell allegedly hit the woman's friend after she tried to intervene.

Rowell was held on $3,000 bail and transported to Middleton Jail, police said.

A motor vehicle stop for defective equipment led to a Rockport man's arrest Saturday afternoon.

Police Chief Tom McCarthy stopped a vehicle being driven by Adam Lucas Dakota Hoenack, of 2 Reilly's Lane, at the intersection of Broadway and Broadway Avenue at 4:11.

McCarthy noticed four, unopened 40-ounce beers on the back seat and placed the 20-year-old under arrest for underage possession of alcohol.

Matthew J. Malgari, 34, of 210 South St., apt. 61, Boston, was arrested at 2:28 a.m. Saturday after police stopped his vehicle on Upper Main Street for speeding. According to the report, Malgari was traveling 60 mph in a 30 mph zone. He was charged with speeding and for not having the vehicle's registration in his possession.

A Rockport woman was arrested on a charge of drunken driving Friday night after she was spotted swerving all over the road by an off-duty police sergeant.

In addition to the drunken driving charge, Jillian M. Blaisdell, 31, of 90 Pleasant Street, apt. C, was also charged with a marked lanes violation.

At 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Michael Marino was on his way to the police station to begin his midnight to 8 a.m. shift when he spotted the vehicle in front of him swerving over the center lane on Nugent Stretch. He reported the incident to the dispatcher on duty who sent a patrolman to the scene.

Fire

A problem with the fire alarm system resulted in two false alarms at Town Hall over the weekend. The first alarm sounded at 7:02 p.m. Saturday and the second followed nearly 12 hours later at 7:29 a.m. Sunday.

Firefighters responded to an outdoor fire box alarm activation on Granite Pier at 12:36 a.m. Sunday. Responders were unable to find a problem and quickly determined someone pulled the box.

The Fire Department also responded to false alarms on Broadway, Heritage Drive and Curtis Street over the weekend.

Incident

Guests of the Rockport Inn & Suites reported at 1:48 a.m. Sunday that someone stole alcohol from their room sometime after a function held there Saturday night. The victims told police there were a number of young adults ranging in age between 17 and 23 years old in their party; police suspect one of them took the alcohol but no charges have been filed.

Ambulance

Rescuers transported a woman from the High School Apartment building on Broadway to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester at 9:46 a.m. Friday.

Men from Curtis Street and Middle Road and a Marmion Way woman were transported to the hospital on Sunday.
