'Photo safari,' trips top Rockport auction tonight

Are you interested in taking a South African "photo safari?"

Playing rounds of golf at Cape Ann golf clubs?

Are you interested in acquiring paintings and other works by local artists?

More than $66,000 worth of donated items will be up for bid tonight at the annual goods and services auction for the Rockport Chamber of Commerce — slated this year for the Rockport Golf Course, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. The live auction will start at 7:15.

The items on the block range from a Rockport Fudgery pound of fudge, with a value of $15, to the "South African Photo Safari," donated by Kingston Auction Company and carrying an estimated value of $3,950.

In the world of art, offerings will include the Ken Knowles Gallery's donated "Lanesville Spring Time," valued at $4,000, and Rockport artist John Terelak's "Offshore Lobstering," an oil painting pegged at a value of $1,600.

And for travelers interested in staying closer to home, there's a two-night weekend stay — with breakfast — at the Taj Boston, valued at $1,600, or two items donated by Rockport's Seven South Street Inn: an overnight stay for two valued at $200, and a six-course champagne breakfast for six, pegged at $500.

The live auction will be presented by auctioneer Frank Kaminski.

For information, contact the Chamber at 978-546-6575 or 978-283-1601. Tickets are $20 and available at the door.
