The Gloucester Daily Times aims to be accurate. If you are aware of a factual error in a story, please call Times Editor Ray Lamont at 978-283-7000, ext. 3438.

Russell Anderson, who retired as Rockport's fire chief on Monday at age 70, never formally applied to selectmen for a second extension of his term. He first requested an extension five years ago and was approved contingent on the passage of annual physical exams. He inquired a second time this year with a single selectman about the possibility of staying on as fire chief despite his age (state law requires firefighters to retire at age 65), but soon thereafter decided to retire, sources said yesterday. A story in Tuesday's Times incorrectly stated Anderson had applied for and was denied an extension.
