A worker fell from the roof of the Pond View Village housing complex in West Gloucester yesterday morning, suffering multiple injuries and requiring emergency airlift to Boston.
The worker was identified last night as 22-year-old Mildred Reina of High Street in Lynn. he was an employee of O'Keefe Brothers, a Salem roofing company.
According to Gloucester Fire Department Capt. Barry Aptt, Reina was re-roofing the Pond View building around 8 a.m., and apparently slipped and fell 35 feet onto a wooden deck.
Reina never lost consciousness, but suffered apparent fractures of the arm, leg and hip, Aptt said.
The injuries, consistent with a Level 1 trauma, led paramedics to call for a helicopter transport to Boston, the location of the nearest Level 1 trauma centers, Deputy Fire Chief Steven Aiello said. Beverly Hospital, which is within driving distance, features only a Level 3 trauma center.
The helicopter landed in the upper Stage Fort Park parking lot and flew the man to Boston Medical Center.
A spokeswoman for Boston Medical Center last night said she had "no information available on the patient," and would neither confirm nor deny that Reina had been admitted to the hospital.
