Letter: Today's right is very wrong on gun control

To the editor:

The Constitution of the United States of America assigns the right to bear arms to its citizens. The intent, certainly, is to enable the people to protect their lives and property. More importantly it was prescribed to equip American citizens with a defense against rogue government actions. Today, guns are entirely ineffective for that purpose. Guns can offer no realistic defense, nor offense, against the armament which the U.S. government has in its possession.

Today, guns are generally preferred by paranoid sociopaths, cowards and vigilantes — as guns have become the implement of choice for the increasing numbers of street gangsters, criminals and domestic terrorists. The profuse abundance of guns and bullets (which is, of course, gained through a provision of capitalist profit in that area of industry) allows for the unhindered pursuit of their endeavors. Isolated incidents of anarchy are now a daily occurrence. The portrayal of fire-armed assault is now a popular staple for televised entertainment. In these ways, the original constitutional concept for bearing arms for protection has come to present a contemporary threat to our free society. Should the trend continue, it will become a more serious concern for our government's officials, and it very possibly can lead to the imposition of martial law in order to quell this growing threat. AMTRAK has begun to impose police state circumstances. The U.S. government has supported a regime of martial law in Pakistan since 1999.

The over-saturation of guns and ammunition in our society has become a clear and present danger to innocent U.S. civilians. Accordingly, it should stand to reason that any public servant who is aligned with those interests most likely represents a rogue design for civil disorder

Eric Thompson is the owner of TGSCOM in Green Bay, Wis. His Internet firearms distributorships — TopGlock.com and TheGunStore.com — have been providing the material support for domestic terrorism with the help of federal lawmakers who are encouraging those kinds of business opportunities. Two of the terrorists were able to accomplish the mass murder and injuring of students at Virginia Tech and the Northern Illinois University with the wares supplied by Eric Thompson and his associates. Those people are wreaking havoc upon this nation.

What the American people need to clearly understand is the U.S. Constitution is intended to disallow such an introduction of danger and fear into our society. The only way to right a wrong is with a right. The most basic civil right is that of being free from harm.

Today, we are assigned the important responsibility of instructing our representatives in government, to lead with measures which assure our safety and security. The current over-production and indiscriminate distribution of firearms and ammunition must be outlawed and the participants disengaged. Manufacturers and distributors must be legally accountable for the injuries which are inflicted by the usage of their products.

These simple facts will enforce the standpoints of this essay:

NASCAR, NFL, NBA, ABL, NHL, WWE and UFC participants require no bullets. Country, rock 'n' roll, blues, rap, folk and classical music artists and their audiences require no bullets. Mall shoppers, students and commuters require no bullets. Paintball requires no bullets.

Golf, gardening, dancing, mountain climbing, skateboarding, boating, skiing, bicycling, walking, child birth, fiestas, paying taxes and voting — all require no bullets.
