To the editor:
In Essex, the water and sewer rates are a little bit different from Gloucester's. The meters are read quarterly. The first 5,000 costs $76.30 that is $15.28/1,000, any overage is at $6.54/1,000.
The sewer rate is $14.55/1,000.
When one considers that Gloucester got a few miles of sewer and a better than fair price for taking our sewage, not to mention trying to have us help pay for storm water drains, one might think Madam Mayor is sometimes barking under the wrong tree.
It appears that for the first 5,000 gallons each quarter, it costs less to get rid of sewage than it does to get the water — after that it costs 2.22 times as much to get rid of sewage as it does to buy water.
