Letter: Winning Rockport candidate extends thanks

To the editor:

I am writing to say thank you for the endorsement of the Gloucester Daily Times (the Times, May 5) in my bid for one of the two vacant seats on the Rockport Board of Selectmen. I was sworn-in Tuesday, May 13.

I would also like to thank the many people who pitched in and helped me. In particular were the folks who found good locations for my signs and the good people who allowed a sign in their yards. I saw signs everywhere. Less visible were all the calls and e-mails; there were many and they counted.

Not to be forgotten are the thousand-plus voters who marked my name on the ballot. It was a win.

Until I find my way around Town Hall and get myself a mailbox, I would encourage anyone writing to me, care of the Board of Selectmen, to send it to my home address. You should also feel free to call my home at 978-546-3548; there is an answering machine on the line. I will get the message.

I look forward to working with Mr. Heinze and thank Mr. Lewis for keeping his race clean and positive. We can all look forward to his Open Space Plan — and a more open government for our lovely little town.

ELLEN CANAVAN

Granite Street, Rockport

Selectman, town of Rockport
