Letter: Welcome to Barack's socialist paradise?

Published: October 18, 2008

To the editor:

It appears that writer Jim Munn no longer fears to show us his socialist roots.

I always thought Jim Munn was a socialist or even a little farther to the left than that. He proved my suspicions when he said in his recent My View piece (Gloucester Daily Times, Oct. 9) that "it seems a more egalitarian socialist model is now more perfectly acceptable."

It will never be acceptable to me. Socialism kills the desire to excel or aspire to greatness or work hard to get ahead because the rewards in a socialist society are the same for everyone whether you work hard or not. Generally in capitalism, hard work is rewarded, unlike socialism where everyone is equally poor and has lost their freedoms.

You see, the only problem is, Jim, you won't be invited to the party. When Barack Obama puts together his socialist programs, you will be on the outside looking in while the elitists decide how much you are supposed to earn.

You won't be called to help rule over the proletariat. You'll be just one of the peasants like the rest of us with a number in case they need you for some menial task.

You probably won't be able to write a column anymore if you dare disagree with the people living in the White House or in Barack's case George Orwell's farm house.

Welcome, comrade to the Socialist Workers' paradise.
