Letter to the editor: Scholarship a living legacy

To the editor:

The other day I was cleaning out my desk, a frequent task of a retired doctor who is long on memories and short on real things to do.

I came across Margaret Parson's funeral program from over four years ago, and read it thinking of the impact this joyful, humorous competent and loyal person had on people. She was not only a good nurse, but a good friend.

At the bottom of the funeral program was an announcement of the "Margaret F. Parsons Scholarship Fund" for a Gloucester High School student pursuing medical science as a major. The contact information for the scholarship was c/o Patricia Burleson, 600 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930.

What a great way to celebrate someone who had a lust for life! She could tell a story better than most, and when she added her down Maine accent, it was unbelievable.

We miss you, "Muggs." But hopefully, through this scholarship, your life will not go unnoticed or forgotten.
