Letter to the editor: Let's not rush into a new serpent's tale
To the editor:
Every so often over the decades I've dropped by Cressy's Beach and gravitated toward the painted serpent.
It was like an adventure to go seek it out and remember it. There it would be, as if timeless, almost hidden.
The former serpent was like a salute to legend and heritage. It was subtle, done in a hue which complemented the nearby waters and seaweed. I believe it also had some red accents, so it was not totally monotone.
The current rendition is garish, and would be even if it was not painted on a white-washed background. The bright green color is hard to miss, even from beyond the main beach entrance.
If we repaint, we will be stuck with our choice for a long time. Please let us invest enough time to solicit and select a more qualified volunteer artist to do something fitting for the area. How hard could that be? After all, this is Gloucester.
