Letter to the editor: GHS' ROTC cadets step up to duty

To the editor:

Wednesday, Oct. 28, was a rainy, windy day on the waterfront in Gloucester.

While at a meeting, I received a call that the large American flag was down.

Brian Tarr was out of town, so I went to retrieve it. When I arrived, I found two ROTC Marines — in uniform — standing in the rain meticulously folding the huge flag.

I asked if someone had sent them, they answered, "No, sir." They just saw that the flag was down and did the right thing, on their own, doing what they were taught.

I salute these young people and the ROTC program at Gloucester High School. Thank you, ROTC Sgt. Hannah Sergent and ROTC Cpl. Deven Grover for a job well done!
