Letter to the editor: Revisiting Rockport's bank purchase votes

To the editor:

I have lived in Rockport most of my life.

My children grew up here. I taught school and was a selectman and a School Committee member.

In other words, I am no stranger to town issues.

But, in all my years, I have never heard anything as confusing as the way the question of paying for the Granite Savings Bank and the Community House for town use were presented at two town meetings. Pam Brindamour and Beverly Quint said as much in letters to the Times.

The town deserves no less than buying the bank to use for its seniors (where they can feel safe about parking) in combination with its uncomfortably crowded employees. I agree with Barbara Brewer's letter (Times, Wednesday, Nov. 4) about this. As she pointed out, there are many uses for the Community House.

The town really needs both. Because of the confusion in presenting the issues, we need another chance to look at the situation simply and clearly. I heartily support this idea.
