Gloucester boys finish third at Rotary Meet

The 27th annual Rotary Club NEC Freshman/Sophomore track meet was held on Saturday at Beverly High School. The meet involved over 200 student-athletes in ninth and 10th grade from Northeastern Conference high schools.

The Gloucester boys registered a third-place finish with 56 points. Gus Margiotta easily captured the shot put with a toss of 48-10. Meanwhile, Anthony LaRocca captured the 200 (23.8) and picked up a fourth-place finish in the high jump (4-11). Andrew Ryan won the 1,600 (4:49.9) and Gloucester took home first place in the 4x400 relay. John Deltorchio finished third in the discus (101-8).

Peabody was first with 106 points, followed by Beverly with 88 points.

On the girls side, Gloucester finished in the middle of the pack with 20 points.

Abbie Rogers placed second in the 800 with a time of 2:32.2. Kaylie McTiernan also added a second-place finish in the 3,200 with a time 13:12.2. Brittany Diamond had a nice performance in the long jump, placing fourth (13-8).

Danvers was first as a team with 78 points, while Salem finished second with 70 points and Peabody third with 66 points.
