Vikings edge Manchester Essex

ULTIMATE FRISBEE

Rockport 15, Manchester Essex 14

The Vikings (8-0) unbeaten inaugural season continued as they outlasted the Hornets.

"It was the most exciting, closely contested match that we've seen all season," said Rockport coach Neil Dineen. "There wasn't one moment where either team felt like they had this game."

Mike Akers (4 goals, 4 assists) and Jake Moss (2 goals, 3 assists) were the offensive stars in the win. 10 out of the 14 Rockport players logged points on the day.

"It was tied at 14," Dineen said, "and we agreed ahead of time to play first to 15 since Manchester Essex only had two substitutes. There were three or four different possessions before we scored the last point."

According to Dineen, Akers and Moss are "very athletic, they're around the disc a lot. They throw well, catch well and they're great jumpers."

Rockport travels to Newburyport next Tuesday and faces Manchester Essex against next Friday before competing in the Division 2 East state tournament.
