WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The new men's basketball coach at Holy Cross has 23 years coaching experience, but not one of them as a head coach.
Holy Cross announced yesterday that Sean Kearney would take over for Ralph Willard, who left to become associate head coach in Louisville under Rick Pitino.
Kearney comes from Notre Dame, where he was an associate head coach under Mike Brey for nine years.
Holy Cross AD Dick Regan said the school was originally looking for someone with head coaching experience but Willard recommended Kearney, and after three interviews, he knew Kearney was the right guy for the job.
Kearney inherits a team that's been to seven Patriot League finals in nine years and has several NCAA Tournament appearances.
