Segal gets shutout and goal for Vikings boys soccer team

Rockport boys soccer goalie Keady Segal got to experience something yesterday that few goalkeepers get to experience.

Not only did he record the shutout in net for the Vikings in their 2-0 win over rival Manchester Essex, but he also scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick. The shutout was Segal's ninth of the year and the goal was his first career varsity goal.

"We were without our first two penalty kick options (Shaffy Roell and C.J. Burnham), and after them is Keady," said Rockport head coach Dave Curley. "We practice penalty kicks all the time and Keady is our third-best option."

Scott Noble scored Rockport's other goal on an assist from Mike Emerson, while Ben and Ethan Clarkson played terrific field games. Curley called the Clarkson brothers "the best players on the field." The coach also praised a trio of freshmen: Nick Laverde, Caden Tibert and Connor Douglass.

The Vikings are now 11-4-2 with one regular season game left before the state tournament.
