After a regular season in which the Manchester Essex field hockey team was about as dominant as a team can be, the Hornets were rewarded by being bombarded with accolades from the Cape Ann League.
Leading the honors for the 18-0-1 Hornets, who won the CAL Small, is senior forward Amelia Cohen, who was named CAL Small Player of the Year. Cohen has been a fantastic player in the Manchester Essex system for four years and enjoyed a tremendous senior season. She was second in the league with 20 goals and second in the league with 11 assists. Only her teammate, senior forward Amelia Burke, was better in each category with 22 goals and 16 assists.
Both Cohen and Burke were also named All-League, as well as being CAL Small All-Stars. Hornets junior back Patty Wright was also named All-League, while junior midfielder Olivia Dumont and junior forward Kyle Marsh were also named All-Stars.
Manchester Essex's five All-Stars were the most from any team in the entire league, both Large and Small.
Rockport junior forward Allie McManus was also selected as All-League, as she helped lead the Vikings to a 7-8-4 record, just missing the state tournament. Teammates Morgan Weir (senior, forward) and Emma Littlefield (junior, midfield) were named as All-Stars, while Rockport head coach Mary Ryan was named Coach of the Year.
In the Large, North Andover's senior forward Candace Waldie was named Player of the Year for leading the team to a league title with a 14-1-3 record. Wilmington's Jodi MacKenzie received Coach of the Year honors.
Sportsmanship Awards went to North Andover and North Reading.
