The Cinderella season has come to an end for the Gloucester girls' soccer team. After qualifying for the Division 2 state tournament despite having three straight winless seasons prior to this year, the No. 16 Fishermen ran into a powerhouse in the form of Danvers.

The Falcons finished the regular season unbeaten and kept their streak going with a 4-0 win over Gloucester at Danvers High School on Saturday night. It was the third win in as many games over Gloucester this season for the Falcons, who improved their record to 16-0-3 with the win. Gloucester finishes up the season at 8-9-1.

Falcons sophomore superstar Corey Persson scored a hat trick, one goal in the first half and two in the second half. Joanna Zecha netted the other goal for Danvers.

Despite the loss, first-year head coach Alex White was very happy with her team's performance.

"To be honest with you everybody played great," White said. "Danvers is an incredible team and we needed a lot to go our way to win. The ball just didn't bounce our way. But I am very proud of the team and it was a fitting way to end our season, with a hard fought game and a solid effort."

With the season over the Fishermen now look to the future, which has a very bright outlook. Gloucester only graduates six seniors and they will be returning three Northeastern Conference all-stars in freshman Kali Cook, sophomore Nicole Repucci and sophomore Clare Pleuler, who was also named to the Eastern Mass. all-star team. The Fishermen will also bring back several freshmen who had a big impact on the team this year including Melodie Orrell, Bianca Giacalone and Katie Ciaramitaro.

"We are going to miss our seniors," White said. "But we have a lot of talent returning and hopefully we can build on this season."
