Essex native Benn Ferriero's stay in the American Hockey League did not last long.
One week after being sent down to the minor league Worcester Sharks (the top developmental team for the San Jose Sharks), Ferriero is back with the big club in the NHL and he made his presence felt right away.
The 22-year-old Governor Dummer graduate and former national champion at Boston College picked up an assist on Tuesday night against the Nashville Predators. It was his third assist of the year to go along with two goals in 18 games in the National Hockey League.
Ferriero was credited with a second assist on former Bruins star Joe Thornton's goal with 41 seconds remaining in the second period. The goal tied the game at three and the Sharks went on to win the game 4-3.
In four games for Worcester, Ferriero recorded two assists. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound center was called up after Devin Setoguchi and Brad Staubitz went down with injuries according to sanjosesharks.com, which is the team's official Web site.
The Sharks currently have an NHL-high 32 points (14-5-4), good for first place in the Pacific Division.
