Whittier takes control of CAC Large with win

MANCHESTER - Whittier Tech head football coach Kevin Bradley has seen an offense similar to the Manchester Essex offense before in the 2001 St. Louis Rams.
"They are like the greatest show on turf," Bradley said of his rival. "Because of their high flying offense we watched a lot of Patriots footage to see how they handled the Rams in 2001."

Vikings take care of business, blank Matignon

ROCKPORT - Rockport boys' soccer head coach Dave Curley has credited his team for their fast starts all season. In the opening minutes of contests, the Vikings normally come out flying and often score early goals to keep the opponent on their heels.
In yesterday's Division 3 North first round game with No. 13 Matignon, the fourth-seeded Vikings showed just how strong they are at the beginning of games. Rockport, scored twice in the first eight minutes of the game en route to an easy 5-0 win over the Warriors at Rockport High School.

Fishermen bounced by unbeaten Danvers

The Cinderella season has come to an end for the Gloucester girls' soccer team. After qualifying for the Division 2 state tournament despite having three straight winless seasons prior to this year, the No. 16 Fishermen ran into a powerhouse in the form of Danvers.
The Falcons finished the regular season unbeaten and kept their streak going with a 4-0 win over Gloucester at Danvers High School on Saturday night. It was the third win in as many games over Gloucester this season for the Falcons, who improved their record to 16-0-3 with the win. Gloucester finishes up the season at 8-9-1.

Whittier lives up to the hype

MANCHESTER - Saturday afternoon's matchup of Manchester Essex and Whittier-the top two teams in the Commonwealth Conference Large-was basically a de facto playoff game in November with the winner gaining control in the conference while the loser would have to hope for some help from other teams (a position you never want to be in) over the last two weeks of the regular season.
The Wildcats (9-0, 3-0) simply made more plays when it counted and had the look of a championship team as they held off a proud Hornets (7-2, 3-1) team 30-16 at Ed Field Field.

Brady and Moss connect for win

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. and mdash; The Miami Dolphins had just spent more than 10 minutes marching to a wildcat touchdown when Randy Moss used one stiff-arm to wipe out their lead.
Moss sped to a 71-yard touchdown after grabbing a short pass over the middle and shoving rookie cornerback Vontae Davis out of his way as the New England Patriots tightened their grip on the AFC East with a 27-17 win yesterday afternoon.

Final: Whittier stings ME Hornets 30-16 in showdown

The Manchester Essex Hornets went into today's game hoping to clinch their football league title with a win.

But they ran into a team that had no intentions of absorbing its first loss.

ME's
Ben Kekeisen returned a kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown in the fourth
quarter, and Jake Brown scored on a 4-yard pass from Alex Carr with
just 1:18 to go, but unbeaten Whittier Tech of Haverhill otherwise
stymied the high-powered Hornet offense from start to finish today and
came away with a 30-16 win in their showdown for the Commonwealth Athletic
Conference Large division crown at Manchester's Ed Field Field.

Hornets blank Crusaders, advance to semifinals

MANCHESTER - The old adage that defense wins championships can apparently be applied to field hockey as well.
At least that's what Manchester Essex hopes after they defeated Bishop Fenwick 1-0 yesterday afternoon in the Division 2 North quarterfinals at Ed Field Field in Manchester.
The top-seeded Hornets (19-0-1) dominated time of possession but their high-scoring offense was held to just the one goal by the No. 8 Crusaders (13-6-1), a second-half strike from junior midfielder Lizzy Ball.

Looking a little deeper into Gloucester's dominance

Let's get the obvious out of the way first: the Gloucester High School football team is really, really good.
Since the present Northeastern Conference Large was formed with the addition of Peabody in 2007, Gloucester has not lost a conference game. The Fishermen are 13-0 in the league and 34-2 overall. This year, the unbeaten Fishermen (8-0) are outscoring opponents by a margin of 35-6. In three league wins against Salem, Peabody and Lynn English, the Fishermen have won by an average margin of 38-2.
