Gloucester girls lax edged by Danvers 13-11

The Gloucester girls lacrosse team's improvement from the start of the year to the finish was evident in its 13-11 loss at Danvers on the road Tuesday. The Fishermen dropped their early season matchup with the Falcons by 12 goals and nearly pulled off a win Tuesday. Gloucester's season comes to an end at 5-13, a five win improvement over the 2011 season.

Mondello, Kipruto win at NEC track meet
The Gloucester boys and girls track squads turned in solid performances at the Northeastern Conference Championship meet Saturday at Manning Field in Lynn and are now turning their attention to the Class B State Championship meet this Saturday at Whitman-Hanson High School.

Matusz, Orioles beat Red Sox 4-1
BALTIMORE (AP) — Brian Matusz allowed two hits and struck out nine in 6 1-3 innings, Steve Tolleson and Wilson Betemit both hit two-run homers, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 on Tuesday night.
