The Gloucester boys 4x800 relay team can now add another championship to their resume.

The quartet of Austin Souza, Alex Trotsky, Andrew Ryan and Liam Anastasia-Murphy beat out top-seeded New Bedford to win the aforementioned event at the Bob McIntrye Memorial Relays on Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Anastasia-Murphy ran the anchor leg for the Fishermen and finished first despite being close to 60 meters behind at the start of the leg. The Fishermen quartet finished with a time of 8:01.91, nine seconds faster than their winning time at the Class B championship, which they also won two weeks ago.

The Fishermen were powered by a personal best time from all four runners. Anastasia-Murphy and Sousa recorded the top two times for Gloucester at 1:59.8 and 1:54.7 respectively.

"Austin (Souza) got us off to a great start," Munn said. "And Liam (Anastasia-Murphy) came from 60 to 70 meters back to take the lead on the backstretch, what more is there to say?"

Munn, who called Anastasia-Murphy's performance a "state best anchor leg," also credited Ryan and Trotsky for their performance.

"Andrew (Ryan) is doing remarkable things for being only a sophomore," Munn said. "And Alex (Trotsky) did great seeing that this was only the second time he ran the 800. He's getting better every time out."

While impressed with the performance, Munn sees even bigger results in the future, predicting that the quartet will record a sub-eight minute relay.

As if winning the relay was not enough, Anastasia-Murphy, Ryan and Trotsky took to the track just two hours later to join teammate Zac Kendall in the 4x400 relay. The Fishermen won their heat with a time of 3:32.65, breaking the school-record of 3:32.97 which was set in 1994.

"Zac runs with great intensity and gave us a lead on the first leg," Munn said. "Alex and Andrew followed with solid runs of their own and Liam finished off with another fine run."

The Fishermen now move on to face Danvers on Thursday, a Fishermen win will equal an undefeated record on the season. Gloucester will return to state-level competition this weekend (Feb. 2 and 3) at the Reggie Lewis center for the State Coaches Invitational.
