Bullpen Woes
Through the first four games of the season its already clear that the Red Sox bullpen is best case scenario a work in progress. Alfredo Aceves and Mark Melancon been late inning disasters leaving the Sox with few bullpen options.
Daniel Bard seems to be the logical choice as to who gets the next crack at closer, but he is in the starting rotation. The Sox have made a commitment to Bard and they need to keep that commitment until he fails.
On Monday manager Bobby Valentine said he would continue to use Aceves in the closers role but one has to wonder how long that will last. The Boston bullpen has already squandered two games in the first weekend of the season, it's certainly too early to panic but it's never too early to be concerned.
It's only four games into the baseball season and already we are longing for the days of Jonathan Papelbon closing out ball games.
Tough Draw
The Bruins caught a bad break drawing the Washington Capitals in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs instead of the Ottawa Senators.
The Bruins owned the Senators this season and the Capitals are a far more talented bunch. Washington is having an off year, that's clear, but they are a far more dangerous team then Ottawa with the likes of Alexander Ovechkin and Alexander Semin. Luckily for the Bruins they are quietly rounding into form a the right time and will get past Washington, just don't expect the cakewalk they would have had if the Senators were their first round opponent.
'Toine Retires
Former Celtics star Antoine Walker has officially retired from the game of basketball after spending two years playing for the Idaho Stampede in an attempt to rekindle his career. Lately Walker has been marred by financial woes that include unpaid Casino debts. Walker won an NBA title with the Miami Heat in 2006 and led the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2002, he was a multiple time NBA All Star.
