Not long after Red Sox GM Ben Cherington said the Red Sox would have one of the highest payrolls in MLB for the 2013 season, rumors began to swirl that the team was going after the biggest free agent on the market.
According to a CBSSports report, many American League general managers believe the Sox will make a push to land outfielder Josh Hamilton, a perennial MVP candidate. Hamilton would certainly be a suitable replacement for Adrian Gonzalez in the lineup, but he will be 32 in May and will demand a $100 million deal, the type of deal that got the Sox into the trouble they are in right now.
