---- — The future of Gloucester field hockey is looking bright.
The O’Maley Middle School field hockey team, led by 17 8th grade students, polished off one of the most successful seasons in the program’s 35 year history finishing up the season with an undefeated 14-0 record.
“This year has been amazing for all players and team members,” head coach Marcy Plante said. “Each player brought enthusiasm, spirit and the drive to be their very best. Each girl was coachable and made a contribution to the team. Most importantly they played as a team.”
The team was led by tri-captains McKenzie Plante, Callie O’Leary and Emma Lamoureaux, who was injured all season but provided strong support on and off the field.
Rachel Alexander was the team’s high scorer but O’Learly, Megan Russo, Nicole Tocco, Plante, Whitney Good, Maddie McCarthy, Lila Monell, Brianna Fernandes and Maggie Destino all contributed on the offensive end of the field for an O’Maley team that scored nearly four goals per game.
Marissa Enes, Sam Cominelli, Sam Orlando and Kelly Broe anchored the defense in front of goalies Bri Ramsey and Jenna Taormina.
