School sports on the high seas

The Manchester Essex Sailing team played host to schools from two states Saturday, with Martha's Vineyard, Moses Brown of Providence, R.I., and Portsmouth (R.I.) Abbey off Manchester's shores for a New England Sailing Association race.

A triple round-robin left the 3 schools with 6-3 records at the end of regulation. A sudden-death tiebreaker sail-off determined a winner and Portsmouth Abbey, the defending Atlantic Coast Champions, won the tiebreaker over the host Hornets in a last-second victory in the final race of the day.

Racing for the Sailing Hornets were Jacob Martz, Cam Holley, Quinn Andersen, Andy Creighton, Brady Winn, Emily Arntsen, and Luke Andersen.

The Hornets completed the regular season ranked sixth out of the 103 NESSA schools, and earned the chance to host the wild card round of the New England Team Racing Championship.
