Sean Gillon went five innings for the win and Ben Favazza picked up a tough save in Gloucester's 5-4 victory at Marblehead Friday.
"It was a good character win for us," Gloucester head coach Joe Orlando said. "It's easy to win in a blowout like we did on Wednesday but it's a different story when you're in a tight game against a very solid team like Marblehead. I was very happy with the performance."
Gloucester (2-0) got all five of its runs in the fourth inning. Jason Vizena and Kyle Lucido each had 2 RBI singles in the inning while Mike Muniz had an RBI single.

Junior right hander Cory Burnham picked up the win for the now 2-1 Hornets going the distance allowing just one earned run on three hits and six strikeouts. Adrian Frattini led the offense going 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs. Matt Corwin also had a strong day with a hit, two RBIs and three walks.

The Hornets move to 2-1 on the year with the win. Paige Zevel picked up the win on the mound for Manchester Essex allowing just a run on four hits over five innings while striking out 10. Alex Stasiak led the offense going 3-for-4 with a home run. Senior captain Kelly Dodge had two hits including a homer and three RBIs while Rachel Gallagher had a pair of hits and three RBIs.

The Vikings picked up their first win of the year and move to .500 at 1-1. Picking up wins for Rockport were No. 1 singles Abby Hood, No. 2 singles Eva Weinstein, No. 3 singles Megan Hood, the No. 1 doubles tandem of Danielle Turner and Kristen Sanfilippo and Krysia Strumpf and Olivia Turner at No. 2 doubles.
